I've just gone through my old Cars magazines and the first article with his name on it was the May 1955 issue. This was a report on Peter Manton and his efforts to hot up the Austin A30 and Morris Minor. His first road test was of the Hillman Minx in June, followed by the Ford Consul, Zephyr and Standard Eight. Probably the most interesting article was his coverage of the Tontala in July. in the same issue was a story on Reg Hunt, a well known racing driver at the time and also a large Holden dealer in Melbourne. Not bad for a 19 year old! He is pictured here in the Minx.
