The Gremlin was AMC making lemonade out of lemons, a fairly crude cut-down of the Hornet to compete with purpose-built competitors. The very short leaf springs needed to fit apparently hurt ride & handling (I've only ever seen a couple). They remind me of the Lancer-based Mitsubishi Mirage though, or even the Hillman Husky is a similar concept. The Pacer is another issue entirely, where they spent a lot of money to make it, and originally intended to use a Wankel rotary - GM sourced?
