Bathurst deserved to have its name on a few local cars but never did? Instead Mazda used it on a domestic market only limited edition RX-7 and in England there was the Vauxhall(HSV) VXR8 Bathurst Editions. Apparently the 2017 special edition Commodore was initially to be called the Bathurst Edition. It ended up being called the Motorsport Edition, which I have. The reference to Bathurst is on the compliance plate, which begins with KOM, King of the Mountain.
Although not widely known or remembered, there was another car sold in Australia that paid homage to Bathurst. It was Toyota's MR2 Bathurst edition, which was effectively an options pack with unique body decals (see image) released in 1994 to celebrate the MR2's remarkable success in the annual Bathurst 12 Hour production car race. It won its class four times in a row from 1991 to 1994, recording an outstanding fourth place outright in its final appearance.
