Always a sucker for the underdogs, unloved and losers, an Edsel wagon is high on my list of favourites. Note how the '59 is photographed against a modern ranch-style house giving a real feeling of the upwardly mobile. It took a while for markets in the US, UK and here to shake off the utilitarian image that wagons like the '49 Plymouth Suburban gave. Wood panelled versions were usually out of most people's price range. The brilliance of the '55 Chevy Nomad was one that broke through that barrier. Quite why anyone would buy a large 2 door wagon is beyond me. Friends had a two door '55 Ford Ranch Wagon, and it was one of the most impractical cars I have ever had anything to do with.
