The highest speed I've reached in a car was about 280km/h down Conrod Straight at Bathurst. That was at the 1992 Bathurst 1000 Media Day (a short-lived event unfortunately) when I was fortunate to be allocated a seat alongside our World F1 champ Alan Jones in a Group A Ford Sierra RS500 during the media ride session. AJ had recently joined Glenn Seton Racing and was handed the team's Sierra to steer on the day. I was truly shocked at how violent those cars were, with their twitchy handling and brutal acceleration from 600 turbocharged horses. I did two hot laps and AJ did not hold back! It was one wild and physically brutal ride I'll never forget.
