I have always thought that Mazda drew inspiation from the Fiat 600T and 850T vans. Rear engined commercial application based on the 600 Multipla but bodied by OM in Brescia. My 850T Camper has been doing sterling work for me for over 36 years and was originally made in 1970 on a design brief starting in 1962. Here is a picture from a couple of years ago but I drove it from Melbourne to Canberra a few weeks ago for Auto Italia ..... the detuned 850 Coupe motor (903cc) purred along beautifully.
