Hmmmmm. So you think modern supercars are pretty quick. Have just finished re-reading Ken W Purdy's 1955 book "Kings of the Road". Quote...."You are at the beginning of a 5 mile straight stretch of concrete, so you stick your foot into it, hit and hold the 100mph mark. Ahead of you there is a parked car, white low and mean looking. As you pass, the fellow behind the wheel guns his engine and starts after you. You keep your foot hard down, and well before you've covered a mile you hear a brutal scream, a roar that sears your eardrums, a whoosh, and the white car has passed you. Another quarter of a mile and he's out of sight......... The man in the white car spotted you at 100mph and a running start and almost blasted you off the road when he went by you within a single mile." Sounds pretty quick to me. OK, it was a race car, but it was built almost 90 yrs ago in 1937 - the legendary Mercedes W125. Dry weight of only 750kg, and powered by a supercharged DOHC 5.6 litre straight 8 putting out 595-640bhp and capable of 190-200mph
