Yes, Vroom1, you make that point well. There is definitely 'something about driving the old XJ6'. As shorthand, we call it character, but it's actually more than that. It's a sense of interacting with the machine which is much more difficult to obtain in contemporary cars. The Maserati has it, too. BTW, you can't beat the early dash, despite its confusing array of rocker switches, That's part of the immense charm of the car. One J. Clarkson thought the little emblem on the Maserati steering wheel was stupid but I think he missed the point.
