I bought the history book on a visit to Red Cliffs many years ago and had a quick flick through it recently. On the initial trip north from Melbourne, the tractor actually broke through a bridge near Kilmore so from then on no doubt the shires had their concerns! They approached Echuca on the west side of the Campaspe and were not allowed to cross the bridge there (the banks would be too steep to drive across), to get to the Murray. It took them 21 months to get to Mildura, including a couple of lengthy stops (many weeks). The last job was south of Horsham, about 380km from Red Cliffs. I think the 900 bag load was only 899 and someone asked why they did not take another bag to make an even 900, to which Bottril replied "that was the station's entire clip". There is a book on Australian tractors showing one of the trailers with two steam engines loaded on its deck. Here is a photo of my grandfather taking a load of wool to Melbourne in 1952, it looks like about 30-40 bales, and on the trailer are some empty drums to bring back fuel on the return trip.
