Just fiddling around some more, read the instructions for a genuine Weber 38 and reset the carb to factory settings. It was good before but now it idles beautifully and no hesitation when revving it up. The idle mixture screws were way off and I did a stupid thing when I installed it and adjusted the idle speed first, a major no no. This car had a broken central dashboard, you can buy them new but only in beige and left hand drive. I crudely converted this to right hand drive and hit it with mission brown which is far too glossy and far too rich but I don’t hate the effect. Sony head unit now in its 3rd vehicle. Just wired to the weeny factory dash speakers. Unsure about putting some speakers in the doors, the drivers side door card is munted but the other one is pristine and would be a shame to wreck it. Perhaps a hidden sub under the seat with the upper frequency set high might do the job and leave it looking factory ish Fixed the mouse wiring issues and Lo and behold the digital clock came to life. Cool as anything from the early nineties edit: I rewired this to take ISO plugs and went to the trouble of finding a signal for ILLUM - and the head unit dims when the headlights come on. Pretty neat.
