Excellent subject and well covered. Must say that a vinyl roof lines can add that extra class on certain cars. Generally goes hand in hand with chrome and gives an "up market" look to the car. I agree that to carry a vinyl roof well, the car had to have a large and well sculptured "C" pillar and needed to have the meeting of the roof line well defined. Generally vinyl topped cars take me back in time to the 1960's and 70's. Now they look classic, then it was more class. Some cars could also get away without vinyl if there lines were well designed. The Valiant VF/VG Hardtops is a car in point as the VG Pacer Hardtops look very sporty without vinyl. In reality it came down to which segment of the market the car was built for, affordable luxury look or sports. In some cases these lines became blurred. I also think some modern cars could also benefit with a vinyl roof as can be seen in with the new Chrysler 300 photo submitted by Joe Kenwright.
