Discussion of Lotus brought to mind the MG A Twin Cam. Added to the MG A line up in 1958 the Twin Cam engine embodied everything that was good and everything that was bad about the model. The promise of performance delivered by two polished cam covers and Dunlop disk wheels hiding four wheel disc brakes could not overcome a reputation for unreliability and finicky tuning. After just 2,111 examples the Twin Cam was dropped leaving MG with a surplus of Twin Cam chassis which were utilised in the little known MG A Deluxe. So much promise undelivered, however today the Twin Cams are highly desirable and well sought after with their mechanical ills now remedied.
