Good question! The origins of Moffat's XC Hardtop which he raced in 1979 can be traced back to 1976, when he built a brand new XB GT to replace his old XB GT (which was originally an ex-works XA GT) that got torched in a race transporter fire that year. The new car raced through the second half of 1976 and first half of 1977 as an XB GT before being updated to XC 500 GS specs for the long distance races including Bathurst where it led home the famous 1-2 finish. Moffat then raced it in the 1978 ATCC before it was repainted in Cobra colours (below) for the second half of the year. It's final season with Moffat was in 1979 when it raced in the black/yellow/red Federation Insurance colours. The car has since been largely restored to its 1977 Bathurst-winning specs and appearance and is on permanent display at the National Motor Racing Museum at Mount Panorama.
