Yes, the mighty Mark VII. A favourite of many tin-top racers of the era, including Sir Stirling Moss who enjoyed great success with this model in the 1950s. In an interview with Thoroughbred and Classic Cars magazine, he recalled: “I have great affection for the Jaguar Mk VII, which I enjoyed on both road and track. Although it looked ponderous, it was a fabulous car, well balanced and light to drive – powerful enough to pull 110-115mph on the straight and so softly suspended through corners, it leant over to the most incredible degree. It retained the standard seats, which gave no grip. In fast, tight corners, I had to stretch my leg across to brace myself against the opposite door! However, the Mark VII held the road well, particularly in the wet.”
