The first Drive-in I went to was in Port Fairy in early 1957. Four young boys and two Mums packed into our Mark 1 Zephyr to see Where No Vultures Fly, a 1951 British movie. The sheer excitement, squabbling between two sets of brothers and two fed-up mothers meant that none of us really got to see much of the movie, and it's a wonder we were ever taken again. We found that if you were bored with the movie, there was generally enough action in the neighbouring car to keep us amused, in those days when most of us lived with our parents and were too young (or poor) to have our own flat or privacy. Quite a few parents were very wary of their daughters being taken to the drive-in in an Austin 1800 because the seats folded down to make a very comfortable bed... Perfect anyway for watching movies from the back seat in a semi-reclining position.
