May I recommend an excellent book for further reading? Automobile Design : Great Designers and their Work edited by Ronald Barker and Anthony Harding. Published in 1970 by David & Charles. A great and absorbing read, particularly with MarkO's choice of Ledwinka and mine of Issigonis. I don't know whether you can get a copy, but there might be some copies floating about on line after 54 years....
