One of DrJohn's significant models is the Peugeot 403. Our farming neighbours bought a new 403 just after they were introduced locally in 1956. One of the quirks of this excellent French car was the wiper pattern. They lay at the base of the screen pointing outwards and swept up to the centre. One really wet day on our unsealed roads he took me with his kids about 60 miles to a footy match. Oncoming cars deposited thick layers of mud which the wipers swept up to make a huge blind-spot in the centre. We never wondered what happened to his 203s, 403s and 404s as the local dealer wouldn't accept them as trade-ins. They were too knocked around carrying sheep and farm gear, so they were all used as paddock cars and then ended their days blocking holes in fences.
