I was in the pit area at Sandown at the end of November '64 when BMC brought the works team out from the UK for the saloon car race. To hear that Galaxie driven by Sir Gawaine Bailey and Lex Davison thundering around the circuit was something else. It was so far out in front, but having problems getting around corners, particularly Peters Corner until of course the brakes got slightly overheated. The rear of the Galaxie could be seen for the rest of the race pointing skywards - no stopping a race to haul it out! Wonderful to see Lotus Cortinas lifting their front wheels and the Minis cocking their rears..... and an unassuming Alfa taking the honours. According to this programme there was only one EH Holden listed as a 179M driven by Bruce McPhee and Fred Morgan.
