In 2015 I decided to remove the flat peak over the cab as it had not been used for a number of years so the appearance has changed since my last post. This year I also prepared and serviced the Dodge to be run in the 2015 Bay to Birdwood Classic Rally. Work and SAFS commitments made the schedule tight but all was achieved as the old girl had done a significant amount of hard work in between rallies. It was a cold dawn as we started our journey from Murray Bridge with a view to cruising down to Barrett Reserve at West Beach SA for the start arriving at 0715hrs so that we could have a look at the other 1750 odd classic entries. The trip did not start well as the coil decided to pack it in 400mtrs from home. Fortunately this problem was rectified with a spare out of the workshop and the journey recommenced albeit 40 minutes behind schedule. Motoring up Adelaide Road the V8 started to run rough with no power and a glace in the mirror indicated that the engine was pushing a lot of fuel out the exhaust. Choke was in so this was something new. Pulled over and found a packing slip for the air cleaner in the throat of the carby fortunately caught on the choke butterfly (carelessness on my part when I did the service). Once removed, the old girl fired up and the rest of the journey was uneventful. At 0830hrs the Classic Rally got underway with Trucks starting at 0850hrs. I can't say that the drive through metropolitan Adelaide was enjoyable with the stop/start conditions, however the crowds were huge lining the route all the way. Travelling up NE road and adjacent to the Windsor Hotel, she died. First thing that was apparent was no fuel in the filter bowl so despite having 120ltrs of fuel, there was a problem. After 5 minutes of fiddling and not really doing anything constructive the problem fixed itself and we were underway once again. The journey was uneventful through to Birdwood where we enjoyed a great day with like minded people in bright sunshine. The trip home was uneventful and my shoulders and arms remind me that I had been reefing a truck without power steering around corners. I'm obviously not as fit as I used to be. On reflection I can laugh at the three incidents and put them down to experience. This was the first time since 2009 that I had any problems so I consider myself lucky.
