Meanwhile Chrysler Australia turned badge-engineering into an art form during the mid '50s. The 1953 Plymouth was used as a base for Dodge and De Soto with few changes apart from grilles, badges and chrome trim. The Dodge front guard was slightly different from the other two, but this body served all of them for about 4 years until the one-size fits-all Chrysler Royal replaced the trio in 1957. The brochure artists had an easy time of it, by simply reversing an image from the '53 US Plymouth brochure and then altering the grilles, adding chrome trim appropriately for whichever gearbox was fitted - yes, really! Three speed manual was fairly bare, Overdrive a bit more chrome and laid on for the Powerflite. By 1956, the artwork base had changed, but all their brochures were fairly spartan compared with the Customline and Chevrolet of the time.
