The interesting thing about all those gaping grilles is that they do look different from one another. It's about brand identity at fifty paces, not elegance. Ian Callum once rather foolishly asserted that it was no longer possible to make a beautiful car, which was a kind of apology for the current XJ. It is just much more difficult. Porsche still manages....though not, perhaps, the Panamera! The curved hip of the old Series III is a thing of great beauty, is it not?
