For the 1961 model year, four interesting wagons from GM. The Corvair was unique in having a flat six in the rear, but the Pontiac Tempest, Oldsmobile F-85 and Buick Special wagons were I think the first to have an upward lifting tailgate. Just when most wagons were changing to the roll-down rear window type, these were well ahead of their time. The idea was dropped for the Vista Cruisers of 1964. The XD Falcon and VB Commodore were our first, twenty years later, even though Europeans like the Peugeot 404 featured the one-piece lift-up. The interior trim of the F-85 appears familiar - I remember sliding all over a similar look in my EJ Holden.
