When I was at the workshop a few days ago, the boss suggested converting the recirculating ball steering to a rack and pinion setup, as he himself has done on a project. Castlemaine Rod Shop produce a complete bolt in unit. It looks very nicely made and elegant in that it is a complete bolt in unit not requiring modifications to the car. The kit is well priced for what it is. A power steering pump has to be added. If I was going ahead I would go for a Holden Astra unit that used an electric motor to drive the pump, meaning belts and pulleys are not required. New aftermarket replacement units are now cheaply available. I will keep the original setup, although I have refreshed the box. If I develop a great desire to change the system, I will wait until after it has gone over the pits.
