I have abandoned the idea of turbo-ing the vehicle just yet, concentrating on getting it registered. The original Mikuni carb is...toast. I had the ute backed out of the car port to move a few things around the yard but it finally quit in the middle of the back yard and refused to start (this was a couple of weeks ago). I had the weber handy, it was a freebie with the turbo manifold and while it's probably from something like a Lancia or a Fiat I figured I could make it work, we used to rob Falcons of their webers for our Mitsubishi shenanigans back in the day so I knew I could find an adaptor plate. The Weber has been sitting in a plastic ice cream container for what looks like 30 years and has a few insect nests in it. Disassembled it and put it in the dishwasher, came up very nicely. Bonus in that it's old enough it has a brass float which...floated! A new top gasket was fitted, the rest of the rubber parts looked new (including a brand new needle and seat) so I figured it would be OK. Stole as much linkage as I could from the dead Mikuni so the throttle cable would fit and then called it good. You can buy the adaptor plates brand new on Ebay - I had done so a few weeks ago with this swap in mind. The only wrinkle is that there is a water jacket in and around the Mikuni, so the water port on the inlet manifold needs to be blocked off. I didn't want to do anything irreversible, so tapped the port, cut off a bolt, put a slot in the top and screwed it into place with a bit of sealant. Works very well. Pictures show the new adaptor plate. I haven't quite worked out the throttle linkage and this weber definitely needs a choke cable, but it idles well and is running enough to drive again. The worst part was trying to make sense of all the vacuum hoses that drive the progression on the Mikuni. In the end I put it all in the bin and blocked it off.
