I agree odencros. The simple lines of the 70s and 80s paint jobs looked great and didn't obscure the body lines and curves like today's over-the-top liveries. The old schemes complimented the shapes and lines of the cars better and were more pleasing to the eye. The stand-out for me has always been the beautiful dark blue and white Brut 33 livery on Allan Moffat's XB Falcon GT at Bathurst in 1974, designed by Ford stylist Wayne Draper. Such a shame the car was crippled by mechanical problems because it was just the best looking race car, with the contrasting white grille, stars of the Southern Cross on the rear quarters etc. Those huge '33' numbers on the doors, bonnet and tail looked fantastic, but of course CAMS said they did not comply with the rules (race numbers had to be either white on black or black on white) and didn't allow Moffat to run them like that after Bathurst. Such a shame.
