The Standard Motor Company (Australia) who imported the Mayflower, eventually became AMI (Australian Motor Industries) later to become Toyota. AMI published a Golden Jubilee booklet in 1976 and this gem comes from their reference to the Mayflower. The 'excitement machine' refers to the Corolla based T-18. The utes were made in Australia according to Larry O'Toole in his book THE GOOD OLD AUSSIE UTE (2000). He quotes the brochure: 'With the cover (available as an extra) fastened for all weather transportation, the modern classical lines of this outstanding vehicle are amply portrayed'.
