The Citroen DS launched in 1955 was so advanced for its time that I think its dazzling innovation tended to distract people from its effectiveness as an all-rounder/daily driver, particularly the wagon variants. Comfort and ride quality were unmatched and its moral victory in the 1968 London to Sydney Marathon (and 1974 World Cup win) proved its extreme ruggedness, durability and sporting prowess. A stand-out from that 1949-1959 era.
