I've always thought the original XK Falcon was one of the neatest and almost timeless 4 door sedans around. Real mixed thoughts on the XL with its T-Bird roofline and revised grille - I still don't know whether it was an improvement or not! We had an XL wagon in the family and in Merino White with red trim, it was a great looking car. However, I've never liked the XM with its band of chrome across the bonnet edge and its awkward raised taillights, which never suited the car's profile. With its hand-me-down 1960-61 Mercury Comet sheet metal front clip, the XP was far and away an improvement on the XM, even though it retained the raised taillights. The jury's out which is the best looking early Falcon, but an XP Futura hardtop would be hard to resist. If Ford Australia had held out with the original Falcon, we could have gone down the same path as the Argentinians, but no.....
