I've never owned a Ford with a Boss 429 engine but I lusted after a 1969 Boss 429 Mustang when I was a kid. As a motor sport fan I have a deep admiration for Henry's remarkable 'Hemi' and what it achieved in NASCAR racing during that amazing era in the late 1960s and early 1970s. That was before the mighty big blocks were progressively choked to death by administrators, using throttle restrictor plates. My favourite Boss 429-powered NASCARS have always been the 1971 Mercury Cyclones prepared by the Wood Brothers and driven by David Pearson and on occasions AJ Foyt in 1971-72. Pearson won 17 of 30 races contested and Foyt took a couple of big super speedway wins including the 1972 Daytona 500. I really wish I'd been able to see those big block NASCARS racing at Daytona in their prime. I'm told the deafening roar from a howling pack of those monsters running side-by-side at 170mph was unforgettable!
