As young blokes at BMC during the '60s , we were always trying to push the more conservative management towards metallic colours. On the roof at the Zetland factory, there were plenty of panels in all hues and paint types being subjected to the sun and industrial fall-out. The metallics in those days just didn't stand up as Valiant owners found within a year or two. By the 70s the company joined the GMH Strike-Me Ping brigade by introducing Bold As Brass, Am Eye Blue, Hairy Lime, Home On Th' Range, Peel Me A Grape, Plum Loco and NV Green which typified that period. My own 1275LS Mini in Hi-Ho Silver showed that by 1978, the metallics had still not been sorted as the roof had the feel of sand-paper. The Major Elite was in Pink Beige & Rose Beige, another two in Ash Grey (really a pink) & Rose Taupe and Saxon Green/Osmond Green, typical of BMC's offerings in 1962. The AP2 Chrysler Royal's colours are beautifully subdued in contrast to the styling.
