I've done several road trips in the US and never found a problem adapting to driving on the other side of the road. The fact that Australia is a RHD country never bothered me up until the recent demise of our car manufacturing industry, because now there is no domestic product left to protect. So if Australia was LHD we could have access to the latest and greatest from the US - in particular Uncle Sam's great range of heavy duty pickups! Interesting you mention Sweden changing over from RHD to LHD Lingus. I believe this image was taken on the day that happened. Must have been a few bingles.
