Re-work of the '63 Galaxy or not, I think the 'tail-lift' of the XM was its most awkward feature. The original XK had a unique tube look giving it an appearance of motion, lost on the XM/XP. The Canadians messed up the tail-lights with their '60 Frontenac, and the Argentinians tried all sorts of tail-light shapes, ending up with something that looked like a late '70s Cortina. Maybe if we had gone with the tail treatment of the US '64 Falcon, it may have been better, but not that fussy side treatment.
