I reckon a stand-out from the early 2000s was Ford Performance Vehicle's F6 sedan (Typhoon) and ute (Tornado) range, derived from Ford's widely-praised BA Falcon XR6 Turbo offerings but given the FPV treatment. Fantastic version of Ford's 4.0L DOHC 24V turbo inline six upped to 270kW/550Nm, which was more torque than FPV's GT 5.4L Boss V8 and formidable figures when launched in 2004. Those figures peaked at 310kW/565Nm in the final FG range with 0-100km/h in the low five-second zone and low-13 quarters. The original BA MkII version had subtle bodywork and badging, big intercooler on show in the lower grille, unique 'tuning fork' wheels, plush GT-derived interior (and optional Brembo brakes) all for less than $60K which was a fraction of six-figure Euro imports with similar performance. For me it was just the right mix of JDM-style hi-tech and old school Aussie muscle. The great Australian road car on steroids. What a wonderful era!
