I don't think I've seen a photo showing the higher floor at the back before (have only seen the vans from the outside). It's interesting that Mazda went for a rear engine when the Familia using the same engine was front-engined. Might it have been an evolution of their first cars that had rear engines. In light of the VW van it would have made sense I suppose. It is very similar in size to what Rootes looked at doing based on the Imp. I'm not sure why the drawing would be overlaid with the sportscar version!
