Interesting you mention Des West's Humpy, morgul. We published a detailed feature on that car in my last issue as AMC editor (No.53) in 2010. We raised it on a four-post hoist and spent hours underneath inspecting it and taking photos. It was such a time capsule that car. All the hands-on modifications West had made to the drivetrain, brakes, suspension, wheels etc back in the early 1960s appeared to be untouched after four decades. As you say, unbelievable - yet true!
