Yes, GM made the right call in dropping the FG because they never could have amortised the tooling costs given its proposed short shelf life between FX and FE. It's funny looking at the two images you've supplied of the FG and FX. Reminds me of a famous FJ street machine built by Colin Townsend many years ago, which was a wider, flatter and much lower version of the original. That boy was ahead of his time!
