Among other considerations my fear of the mechanical complexity of Italian classics such as Ferrari, Maserati et al caused me to acquire a De Tomaso Pantera. Of course you cannot overlook the killer 1970s super car looks and the barely muffled sound of a 351 Cleveland at your shoulder. The Pantera was underdone in the development department when released and failed to meet the sales and quality expectations of Ford. Notwithstanding the dissolution of the partnership with Ford De Tomaso soldiered on with the Pantera into the early 1990s. However the purity of Tom Tjaarda's original design had by then been corrupted by enlarged wheel arches and rear deck wing. I much prefer the cleaner chrome bumper look of the early 1970's
