Marinas didn’t see much competition, but one formidable example was a V8 powered Marina Coupe entered by a Major John Hemsley in the 1974 London-Munich World Cup Rally. The engine came from an MGB V8 and it had a modified MGC gearbox with overdrive and a limited slip diff. The car was running in third place by the time they got to Spain, but he retired with axle problems in the Sahara. Jim Richards entered the 1972 Heatway Rally in New Zealand in a 1.8 Coupe, but missed out due to damage to the gearbox.
