Thanks David. Another well researched piece! While I realise that packaging and safety issues were the death knell of rear engined cars compared to the avalanche of FWD cars that were coming fast from the 70's onwards, I can't help but think it would have been nice for the modern affordable small car to be predominately rear engined as they once were. Your comments/images above confirm this to be the case. My favourite? The FIAT 850 coupe particularly with an Abarth Twin Cam slotted in. The OT 2000 was a better than 200kmh car way back in the day.
