Here are three cars that I think were right from the very beginning, and no amount of restyling or fiddling about ever improved their looks. The original production VW Beetle, preferably with a split rear window, but oval as shown here, was the best it ever looked. The MM Morris Minor of 1948 with its low headlights and divided windscreen was perfection. The Austin/Morris Mini of 1959 was at its purest. BMC were a bit dubious about how it looked and shortly before it was announced showed it to Pininfarina. They asked what to do about it - his response was "Leave it alone - it's unique"
