Chrysler Australia Ltd usually doesn't get much credit for making the right decisions, but as Freeway says it certainly made the right call on backing the Galant over the Avenger. It reminds me of a quote from Gavin Farmer's excellent history of Chrysler Australia by former Port Melbourne plant manager Lyall Zilm: "The Galant was so much easier from our point of view to assemble and as the earlier Mitsubishis (Colts) had a far better warranty track record, it became a far more profitable car for us to sell." According to Farmer, Aussie Galants were assembled from CKD kits with local content of around 35 per cent, which I assume would have been things like tyres, batteries, seat-belts etc. Maybe local glass too.
