Rent-a-Cars must have copped a caning regularly. I have heard stories: A fella I worked with moons ago had a rented Commodore for he and his wife when on Holidays, and on leaving Gympie they were hit by a storm and with lack of visability he skidded into a river with the front of the Holden in the water. Incredibly, it started, and they reversed out of the water. Interior floor was soaked and when doors opened water would flow out. They drove it back to their accommodation, pulled all the carpet mats out of the floor to dry in the sun and drove it back to the rental next morning, nothing mentioned. And of course their was a time when some fella (no names mentioned here) drove a rent-a-car SLE Commodore around Lakeside for some quick laps. Same rental service had Holden Calais and a Fiat X19 on their available listings. I once did get to drive a Mercedes Sports Convertible Rental car to help out my Son-in-Law who wanted the car for his Mum on her Birthday. He was under 25 yrs of age and not eligible to hire the Merc and asked me to help out. Well someone had to do it, his Mum's Birthday was important for him ......... Below: The 450 SL Mercedes Hire car
