If the Austin A40 Somerset was old-fashioned, have a look at the Half-Ton Van and Pick-up that BMC and then BL marketed up to 1971. They essentially used the A50 body shell, then lengthened the tray in the late 1950s. Meanwhile the Farina-styled A60 Cambridge came along, but they kept the old one going for over a decade. Meanwhile, Australia played around with the idea of a Freeway ute, but the SIAM Di Tella in Argentina made their own very similar version, complete with a Riley grille. There was a one-off Freeway ute that used to run around the factory delivering parts. It looked very like this drawing. Found years later under a tree and too far gone for restoration. Like a Holden ute, you could see the rear seat under-pinnings from the Station Wagon.
