We mourn the loss of Nick Hassapis, celebrated Shannons Super Rig driver and true champion of the brand.
Born on May 3, 1958, Nick’s legacy transcends his role as a Shannons ambassador; he was a beloved colleague and friend to many. His infectious laughter and warm conversations endeared him to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Initially a taxi driver before transitioning to a limo driver, Nick’s association with Shannons began in the 1990s when he served as a personal driver to Robert Shannon.
After Robert’s passing in 2000, Nick was re-recruited as the Super Rig driver and ambassador — a role he embraced with enthusiasm and joy for 15 years.
Living in the Super Rig year-round, he crisscrossed Australia, leaving a lasting impact on colleagues, friends, and the countless customers who attended Shannons-sponsored events.
The Shannons Business Development Manager (BDM) network across Australia had a close working relationship with Nick. Since his passing, heartfelt tributes and anecdotes have poured in, celebrating his legacy and the impact he leaves.
“Nick’s way of greeting you was always ‘Hey! You want a coffee?’” Shannons BDM, Steve Taylor, recalls.
“The veiled joke was, if he liked you, you received a coffee in an insulated cup. If he didn’t like you, or you were in trouble, you got your coffee in a paper cup.
“Word of this circulated around the events and motoring scene, to the point where people would come up and ask Nick ‘do I get a paper cup, or a proper one?’
“Nick was one in a million, a larger-than-life legend that was everyone’s friend. His passing has left a devastating void with all that knew and loved him.”
The motoring enthusiast community has lost a legend. May Nick rest in peace, his tireless dedication forever etched in the hearts of those he touched.
Shannons extends its condolences to Nick’s family, friends, and colleagues.
