The last of just 10, V10-engined Lexus LFA coupes delivered to Australia is a undisputed star of Shannons Timed Online Winter Auction from August 2-9.

Powered by a hand-built 4.8-litre V10 engine, co-developed with Yamaha exclusively for the LFA it produces 412kW/480Nm. Matched perfectly to its six-speed automated manual gearbox, the engine has a redline of 9500rpm and this dizzy limit is reached from idle in just 0.6 seconds.

The absolute highlight for enthusiasts is the visceral howl its engine emits at full revs, which has been likened to the scream of a V10 Formula 1 racing car.

To match its performance, Lexus fitted the LFA with an LCD tachometer, as according to engineers, analogue instruments would 'not keep up' with the engine’s revs.

Just 500 of the V10-engined Lexus LFA V10-engined coupes were built, with the car being auctioned being the last of just 10 delivered in Australia.

Underneath its long bonnet, the LFA’s jewel-like V10 engine is smaller than some V8s and about as heavy as a V6, while as part of its impressive design language, the door handles sit flush against the LFA’s body and pop out when touched.

Created as a global icon for the Lexus brand, the LFA went into production in late 2010 at the rate of just 20 units per month. Lexus ultimately built just 500 LFAs for the world market by the time production finished in 2013, reportedly losing money on each of them.

According to Lexus, the ‘A’ in the LFA model designation stands for the ‘Apex’ of the LF line of cars.

Former Top Gear TV host Jeremy Clarkson gave the LFA the ultimate accolade, simply calling it “the best car I have ever driven” and “exquisite.”

Finished in Pearl White with a red and black leather interior, with Alcantara and carbon fibre highlights, the LFA being auctioned showed just 5,180km on its odometer at the time of cataloguing, effectively making it like a new car.

The jewel-like V10 engine of the Lexus LFA co-developed with Yamaha that revved to 9,500rpm from idle in just 0.6 second.

A spectacular machine whichever way you look at it, this LFA’s pearlescent paint glows in the sun and its distinctive shape attracts attention wherever it goes.

Originally priced new at $750,000 in Australia, the LFA was delivered to its first and only Melbourne-based owner in 2013 by Lexus of Blackburn, which has served the car from new.

Fitted with a remote-touch controller interface for its 13-speaker Mark Levinson sound system and equipped with every conceivable power-assisted luxury, each LFA was also delivered with a pair of Tumi suitcases custom designed to fit the LFA interior, with each set inscribed with the car’s VIN. In addition, all LFAs were further customisable by their owners, who were selectively chosen.

Presented in as-new condition throughout, the LFA being auctioned by Shannons offers the unique chance to own one of the rarest, most valuable and spectacular cars in the country and it is expected to sell in the $1- $1.3 million range.

If you need a further incentive to dig deep, nobody knows if, or when, there will be another LFA on the market.

An attractive alternative to the Lexus LFA in Shannons Timed Online Winter Auction is this 2019 model V8-engined Lexus LC500, which is expected to sell in for $130,000-$150,000.

The closest Lexus gets to an LFA today is the current Lexus LC500 coupe, with a one-owner silver with black and grey Alcantara interior example in Shannons timed, on-line Winter auction.

Showing just 54,000km on its odometer at the time of cataloguing, the 2019 model LC500 has the added appeal of being delivered with the model’s optional ‘Enhancement Pack’, that included a carbon roof, an active rear spoiler and dynamic rear wheel steering.

Powered by a 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 that produces 351kW of power at 7100rpm, the LC500 features the world’s first 10-speed automatic transmission, with the benchmark sprint from 0-100km/h completed seamlessly in 4.7 seconds on the way to a top speed of 270km/h.

When the LC500 Concept debuted at the 2016 Detroit motor show, it bore more than a passing resemblance to the LFA. At just 1.3 metres tall, two metres wide and 4.8 metres long, the LC500 like the LFA is all bonnet and hips, with giant 21-inch rims tucking into its enormous wheel arches.

Its extensive standard features list includes a Mark Levinson stereo system, a 10.3-inch display, a head-up display, dual-zone climate control, proximity key door opening, leather upholstery with heated front seats, stainless steel pedals and LED headlights.

While the Lexus LC500 with the ‘Enhancement Pack’, cost almost $250,000 new in Australia, Shannons predict a selling price of $130,000-$150,000.
