Four magnificent Mustangs – three with rare manual gearboxes and three with right hand drive – have been mustered for Shannons Melbourne Autumn Classic Auction on Monday (April 29).
The eldest stallion in the herd is a stunning red 1965 289-cid Shelby GT350 clone, converted to right hand drive and fitted with the three-speed automatic transmission option.
Fitted with Shelby-style rear side windows, a fibreglass bonnet with trademark Shelby scoop and the hero model’s distinctive twin-stripe package, the Mustang is stunning on its on after-market 17-inch rims, while enhancements to its 289-cid V8 support its stand-out appearance.
Shannons expect it to sell in the $40,000-$44,000 range.
Equally stunning is the black with red interior and new white vinyl folding roof 1967 Mustang Convertible equipped with the optional four-speed manual transmission.
The car has been in the vendor’s ownership since 1995 and received a cosmetic restoration while it was being converted to right hand drive.
Fitted with disc brakes on the front and power steering, the Mustang’s 289-cid V8 engine was rebuilt in 2006 and modified to run on unleaded fuel, while a heavy duty clutch, a new carburettor and electronic ignition have since been fitted.
Shannons expect this stunning and rare Mustang to bring $40,000-$45,000.
Another interesting Mustang in the auction is the right hand drive 1967 ‘A-Code’ Coupe that has covered just 6,000 of its indicated 85,400 indicated miles since it was acquired by its current owner in 2002.
The car has always been garaged and comes with engineering papers for the right hand drive conversion, an owner's manual and original Colorado plates. It has a guiding range of $24,000-$28,000.
The final pony car in the pack is a 1969 Mustang Fastback that was imported in 2008 and retains its original left-hand drive configuration.
Powered by the correct 351-cid engine enhanced with alloy Edelbrock heads, it has also been fitted with a five-speed manual Tremec gearbox.
Other recent work includes the fitting of electronic ignition, clutch and suspension upgrades.
It is expected to sell in the $24,000-$30,000 range.
For those from the ‘red’ corner, Monday’s Shannons auction also offers a stunning Sebring Silver 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible.
One of 2610 1963 Corvettes with the very desirable 360 hp 'Fuelie' L84 engine, this factory four-speed left hand drive convertible is a multiple NCRS award winner, both at American national and regional levels.
Fully restored in 1998, the Corvette has benefitted further from an engine refurbishment in 2005, along with an overhaul of the mechanical fuel injection system in 2008.
With a recent American Sale of an almost identical example in similar top condition making well over $100,000 this is a rare chance to own the American Dream Car in possibly one of the most desirable Specifications. Shannons are expecting bids in the $85,000-$100,000 range.
