Major Shannons auction at Brisbane Motor Show

After being a significant attraction of the Melbourne and Sydney Motor Shows for more than a decade, Shannons will stage a major classic vehicle auction at the 2008 Brisbane International Motor Show, which runs from February 1-10.
The inaugural Shannons Brisbane Motor Show Auction will take place on the final day of the Show - Sunday February 10 - and will feature up to 30 specially selected cars, plus a number of items of memorabilia and significant heritage number plates.
Shannons also expect to auction some desirable 'Q-plates' in the auction. Until now, these have been sold through a separate pre-Motor Show auction staged by Personalised Plates Queensland.
"We have identified Brisbane as the perfect location for a new Shannons regional auction house in 2008 and the Brisbane Motor Show is the ideal place to stage our third major annual national auction," said Shannons National Auction Manager Christophe Boribon. "The demand for this has come from our Queensland insurance and auction customers."
Queensland Business Development Manager Phil Ross has been scouring Queensland for significant vehicles and promise that the auction will be a highlight of the Motor Show.
"We have been looking in sheds and under car covers and have found some amazing vehicles that we never previously knew existed," said Phil Ross. "We would like the auction to become a regular feature of the Brisbane Show, so we are going all out to ensure that we have a very strong entry list."
All lots in the auction will be on display free to the public in the Concourse area of the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre at South Bank throughout the 10 days of the Motor Show.
Shannons' move to stage its third major annual auction in Brisbane follows the company's now-historic association with both the major Melbourne and Sydney Motor Shows.
Shannons staged its first Melbourne International Motor Show auction in conjunction with the Australian F1 Grand Prix in 1996 and its first Australian International Motor Show in Sydney two years later in 1998.
In 2005, Shannons was invited to move its major display of auction vehicles inside the Sydney Convention & Entertainment Centre.
Following the popularity of the auction vehicles with Sydney Show visitors, Shannons this year was offered a premier position in the prestigious Hall 2 alongside major manufacturers for a highlight display of eight outstanding auction vehicles.
A similar highlight display inside the Motor Show proper is likely for next year's Melbourne International Motor Show in March.
Shannons brought classic vehicle auctions to Australia in 1981 to meet the demands of this expanding market and now conducts Australia's largest collectable vehicle auctions, selling up to 1,000 vehicles, memorabilia items and number plates a year at major national motor show and regional sales around Australia.
The value of vehicles sold at Shannons Motor Show Auctions has risen considerably over the years.
This year's Shannons Sydney Motor Show resulted in sales of $3.75 million for vehicles, memorabilia and heritage number plates, while in 2006, Shannons achieved a record result of $4.1 million for Sydney's RTA through the sale of 100 special New South Wales number plates.
Shannons has become the acknowledged authority on these increasingly valuable collectors' items and has also carried out major number plate auctions on behalf of Victoria's VicRoads.
