Bidders strike early in Shannons Timed Online Autumn Auctions

• Top vehicle bid currently $700,500 for rare 2000 Lamborghini Diablo GT/R Coupe number 4/30
• Top motorcycle bid to date is $102,500 for 1949 Vincent H.R.D. Rapide
• Top number plate bid is $1,800,000 for early Victorian ‘14’
• All prices expected to rise before auction closes May 24

Keen bidders have pounced early in Shannons current Timed Online Autumn Auctions which closes next Tuesday (May 24).

With five days to run, all 17 of the 18 desirable Victorian, New South Wales and Queensland plates black and white number plates have met their reserve prices and are on the market.

This ‘pocket rocket’ 1988 Peugeot 205 GTI Hatch is in demand with a top bid so far of $38,500.

The exception is the rare early Victorian plate ‘14’ offered after one family ownership for 25 years that has so far attracted the auction’s top bid of $1,800,000, but is expected to sell ultimately for up to $2.2 million.

The top vehicle bid of the auction so far has been the $700,500 offered for a super-rare 2000 Lamborghini Diablo GT/R Coupe, the fourth of just 30 factory-built cars to compete in the European Lamborghini GTR Supertrophy series, that could ultimately bring up to $800,000.

A bid of $30,000 has already been lodged for this cute glass-topped 1958 Messerschmitt KR200 three-wheeler microcar.

The best price offered for a motorcycle so far is $102,500 bid for an iconic 1949 Vincent H.R.D. Rapide.

Other notable early auction bids to date have been:

• $130,000 bid for Queensland plates ‘156’ and ‘226’
• $220,000 for the Victorian sequential-number plate ’34.567’
• $195,000 so far for the ‘lucky’ Victorian plate ’88.388’

This nicely restored 1965 MG B MkI is already being chased by enthusiasts, with a top bid so far of $29,500.

Amongst the vehicles, notable early bids have been:

• $160,000 for a 1971 Chrysler Valiant VH E37 Charger R/T Coupe
• $42,000 offered for a 1962 Holden EK Special
• $38,500 bid for 1988 Peugeot 205 GTI
• $29,500 for 1965 MGB Mk1
• $30,000 so far for 1958 Messerschmitt KR200 three-wheeler

This stately 1973 Rolls-Royce could be the bargain buy of the auction if no one trumps the $9,877 bid so far.

Meanwhile, potential bargain buys could be a ‘no reserve’ 1973 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow LWB saloon, which has currently attracted a top bid of $9,877 and a 1965 Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint Coupe in ‘Project’ condition, for which just $3,200 has so far been offered.
