History
This car was bought new by my dad in 1988 as his new vehicle for his taxi business. The car served him until late 1994 and came off the road with 739,000km on it, then I purchased it from him. It was on its 3rd 308 engine and 5th trimatic (traumatic!!) but the diff, diff oil and rear wheel bearings were original... This car resulted in me making the dumbest call ever when it came to maintenance...Was going for a weekend away and the day before I start getting this hum/whine noise throughout the car. By now the car had over 800,000km on it, so my dad and I conceded it was time for the rear wheel bearings to be done. We had the a set brand new in our garage which were bought "just incase" since about 1990!! We replaced the bearings and took it for a test drive, as still whining... So I decided the diff was on the way out. I filled the diff with a heap of diff treatment to be able to go away. Was only after an hour of driving that wondered why the diff whine changed when the car drove into a gust of wind??? Worked it out - I'd put a set of roof racks on the day before and they were humming away in the wind!
Was an easy and powerful car to drive... Power steering light as, and being only 1330kg, with the 5.0 litre, it flew!
