History

VYS2 Calais - LPG/PULP 250kW
Hi,
This will be my first post of my VY S2 Gas/PULP.

Most people say WTF when they see a S/C LPG L67 Calais running on LPG.
They said it couldn’t be done; it can.
LPG can do more than heat your house or cook your BBQ.

This car started off basically a stock petrol car.
Mods in chronological order:
Purchased it in August 2010. I bought it in Canberra. I then travelled across to Perth where it now lives.
Sept 2010: PRINS LPG Electronic Vapour Injection.
This was a recovery of a previous VY Calais (Series 1) that was written off when some A#$@! ran his car into the back of it.
Sept 2011: Cheapass CAI built with parts from Bunnings (4" Aluminium Exhaust Fan pipe)

12th March 2012: Started to get serious with:
3.3" Boost upgrade pulley
Yella Terra 1.95 rockers
Pacemaker headers 1.75" into 2.5"
2.5" Magnaflow SS core cats and pipe
Manta twin 2.25" into single 3" Cat back
from BYE Performance (Thanks Justin).

16th March 2012: Replaced Hyd Lifters. Stuff keeps happening.
30th March 2012: Motor blew up.
Needed a rebuilt short motor with new crank, 2 con rods, and 1 new piston.
Replaced: GM L67 Crankshaft.
ACL Bearings, Piston, Ring Kit.
Rollmaster Double Chain.
Comp Cam Stage 1 206/216@.05 512/507 lift
Stage 2 Heads, recon, oversize valves, CNC porting and
105lb comp cam valve Springs
Replace YT 1.95 with 1.60 Rockers.
from BYE Performance (Thanks Justin).
See attched Dyno:

August - September 2013: Round Australia trip.
WA: From Perth north, around N/West WA and Kimberleys.
NT: to Katherine (sorry, didn’t make it to Darwin - next time).
Down Sturt Hwy and across Barkley to Townsville to,
Qld through Townsville to Port Douglas. From PtD along the coast to Bris and Toowoomba. Back to coast and down into,
NSW: All along the coast to Sydney including Byron Bay - great place. From Sydney:
ACT: Canberra and Queanbeyan through Snowy mountains (great hills driving there) and through to:
Vic: Ballarat Daylesford and continuing through Gt Ocean Rd around coast (Pt Fairy, Warnambool, Portland).
SA: Mt Gambier Princess Hwy through Coorong and Murray Bridge to Adelaide. Adelaide along coast road (Walleroo, Pts Broughton, Pirie & Augusta around Eyre Penninsular) Across the Nullabor to:
WA: Around to Esperance, Albany and back to Perth.
Total kms: 21000 approx.
Avg Fuel: 9.8l/100km.

Since then:
June 2014: Upgrade sound insulation/other stuff.
Installed 3 packs of Dynamat to
Boot: everywhere.
Interior: Floor, all doors, parcel shelf, under dash.
Installed 3 packs 1/8" Dynaliner (it doesn’t go very far; but makes a big difference)
Floor, all doors.
Installed 1 pack 1/2" Dynaliner
Roof.
Replaced the complete Interior (Black) with the Senator kit (brown/beige-whatever, it looks great).
Connected a 3 guages on the ’A’ pillar (Air/Fuel meter, Exhaust temp, Oil Temp) to keep an eye on the engine.

Loudness levels were 65-70dB when travelling @ 100km/h, (barely hold a conversation- raising the voice)
Now: approx 45-50dB when travelling @ 100km/h and the top frequencies (ie: 1K to 20K) have been reduced by over 1/2 original. It is possible to have a normal (ie: like at a quiet home environment) conversation. I don’t know what your home environment sounds like, but the loudest thing heard from within in the car is the sound system.

A 4 channel DVR with 4 cameras facing front, rear, LH side & RH side of the car; includes GPS positioning and 3G call out to my mobile if the car is stolen; it will send me a txt letting me know where it is and how fast it is travelling. Alarm Inputs on DVR tell me it is being enetered illegally.

A/V installed: (all figures rated at RMS value - don’t give me PEAK values, they don’t mean anything except what power it delivers just before it burns out)

Head Unit: TEAC TE275 7" screen and Dolby 5.1 (yes, that includes a centre channel)
Centre: 2 of TEAC TE-C100 at 40W each. 2 speakers in each 4.5" and 1".
Front: JBL GTO-609c 200w RMS 6 1/2" Component speakers (tweeters on door) and additional pair of JBL GTO-18T 50W RMS 1" Tweeters replacing stock ones on the Dash.
Rear: JBL GTO-638 60w RMS 3 way 6" speakers.
Subs: I was going to put a set (2) of JBL GTO-1014 350w 10" subs on the back parcel shelf, but the LPG gas tank got in the way (not enough depth) so I got a set (2) of Rockford/Fosgate P3SD2 300W RMS 10" 2ohm dual coil Subs which did fit in the hole.
Amplifier: JBL GTO-5EZ 5 channel amp.
75W RMS x 4 @2ohms. (the front set were 1.4ohms, as they were in parallel)
500W RMS x 1 @ 2ohms SUB channel and crossovers.

I have used the unit on various film and music DVDs, and the are AMAZING. Even with the car running at 110km/h, I can hear everything and very little road/tyre noise.

2018 UPDATE.

This car is no more. It has donated it's organs to the benefit of others.
I could not sell it for what I wanted ($10K), I could not even sell it complete for what was very reasonable ($5.5K), so I have sold the car as PARTS. The parts will now live on in the cars of other people who I hope will treasure them as much as I have.
BTW, I kept a lot of the goodies for my new project such as the HI-Fi and the Gas kit:
a 2003 Nissan Patrol ST-L ZD30, the same colour as my beloved Calais
R.I.P. Calais
